At the conclusion of this presentation attendees will be able to:

Cross Cutting Program Area(s): Non-Cigarette Tobacco and Nicotine Products and Tobacco Control Policies

Audience: all Key Points: WV has a documented high prevalence of dual tobacco use. This is defined as someone who is a cigarette smoker as well as a smokeless tobacco user. Because of this trend, we brought together an expert panel to: 1. Explore the prevalence of dual tobacco use in West Virginia. 2. Identify successes and challenges to addressing dual tobacco use in West Virginia. 3. Identify current tobacco cessation practices and models specific to addressing dual tobacco use. 4. Develop targeted recommendations for addressing dual tobacco use for dissemination to policy makers, local health departments, clinicians / health providers, researchers / community-based agencies serving WV residents. Brief description: Prior to the actual panel, we convened 3 conference calls of a workgroup to plan logistics, identify expert panel members, determine the meeting format, determine desired outcomes and create an implementation timeline. On December 13th, 2011, we convened an Expert Panel of 24 members in Charleston, WV to address many aspects of dual tobacco use in WV. Educational Experience: Dual Use should be addressed by all! Benefits: This NCTOH presentation will be about the outcomes and findings of the expert panel, and the various recommendations, reports etc. coming from same.
