At the conclusion of this presentation attendees will be able to:
- Explain the current state of youth activism/engagement in tobacco control nationally.
- Identify strategies that can be utilized for the planning and administering of campaigns/projects while working with limited funding.
- Identify ways collaboration has provided sustainable support for youth and young adult campaigns/projects.
Audience: Youth, young adults, and adults who work with or coordinate youth-based programs.
Key Points:
- Youth and young adults have proven to be reliable and passionate tobacco control activists, but have to deal with the increasing problem of inadequate or non-existing funds.
- There are limitless opportunities through unpaid traditional media outlets, social media/networking, street activism, social change campaigns, etc., to draw attention to your cause, garner support, and create sustainable change.
- Being able to identify and articulate your goals will help facilitate the process of identifying varying opportunities of support and collaboration.
- Effective planning and organizing, along with clear and concise messaging is vital to intentional collaboration.
Educational Experience: Participants will be introduced to best practices of veteran programs and activists as they expose effective strategies, highlight essential skills, and learn activism-based approaches that can be utilized for youth and young adult programs requiring little to no funding.
