Youth Advocacy Updates from around the World Audience: All age groups and experience levels, in order to successfully implement activism events, youth require guidance from their adult coordinators. Key Points: This workshop will begin with a powerpoint presentation highlighting the activities that will take place at the 15th WCTOH in Singapore in March. A global prospective on youth tobacco control activities will be presented and specific examples of successful youth activist actions will be outlined. The role young people have played in fighting the tobacco pandemic, and the role that young people can still play moving forward, will be explored. The following quote by Margaret Mead will convey the message that any effort made, no matter how small, is influential in making a difference: "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed people can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has." Educational Experience: The workshop will feature an interactive audience participation project where volunteers will be asked to come forward to complete a small jigsaw puzzle. Upon completion of the puzzle, the volunteers will discover that they are missing a central piece. The message behind this exercise: each individual effort is an essential piece of our success in the fight against the tobacco industry. Benefits: 1. To empower youth advocacy by demonstrating that the struggles of youth activists are similar around the world. 2. To reinforce that each effort, no matter how seemingly insignificant, is an essential piece of our success.
