Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this presentation attendees will be able to:
- 1.Basic understanding of CDC’s youth engagement guide for state and community interventions.
- 2.Recognize several key advocacy activities to engage youth while working on a comprehensive policy change at local and state level.
- 3.Learn how to train youth for tobacco control policy change in a variety of settings
Audience: Tobacco control leaders interested in involving youth in advocacy efforts; Youth interested in participating in community activities to reduce tobacco use; Conference attendees who are interested in knowing more about the CDC youth engagement guide.
Key Points:
- Participants in this session will learn about the development of tobacco control that follows "CDC's Guidelines for Youth Engagement. The process is allowing youth to play a significant role in local and statewide tobacco control activities.
Educational Experience:
- Youth leaders (Show Me PALS from Missouri) will share their experiences related to group formation, organizing a successful statewide SWAG (Students With A Goal) Summit, development of action plans, and the post-summit “mini SWAG” regional activities.
