Key Points:

This poster discusses the success and struggles of transitioning to a tobacco-free campus at Indiana University Bloomington.

This poster will explain current perceptions towards the current campus policy as well as towards the normalcy of smoking on campus are evaluated along with current tobacco use practices.

This poster will describe  data on the degree of tobacco use occurring on this tobacco-free campus and the degree to which tobacco paraphernalia contribute to the total amount of litter on campus. This poster contributes to the emerging literature on the new frontiers of tobacco control.

Educational Experience: Conference particpants will identify the evaluation approach used for evaluating campus tobacco policies as well as stakeholder needed for the evaluation and dissemination of findings.

Benefits: Tobacco use is one of the leading indicators of Healthy Colleges 2010. Tobacco free policies have been implemented in the majority of college campuses to varying degrees. Indiana University Bloomington is one of a smaller number of campuses to have a campus-wide ban of tobacco products. (Halperin 2003). This evaluation describes the efficacy of such a ban. This evaluation highlights struggles such as issues related to compliance towards this ban. This study contributes to the emerging literature on the new frontiers of tobacco control.
