184 Developing a Tobacco Free Policy from the Ground Up

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this presentation attendees will be able to:

  1. Assess a timeline to develop a Tobacco Free Environment Policy for an early childhood program.

Cross Cutting Program Area(s): Youth

Audience: Those working towards a tobacco free environment especially those working with young children.

Key Points: Timeline, planning and coalition building, educating staff on the effects of tobacco, and implementaiton of a Tobacco Free Environment Policy.  These key points will give others ideas and strageties they can take back to their own organization.

Educational Experience: Audience members will hear strategies that one program used to develop a Tobacco Free Environment.  Attendees will also hear the hurdles that were overcome so that they can learn from our experience.

Benefits: Attendees will hear the benefits of developing a guiding coalition of experts to accomplish the vision of creating a safe and healthy environment for children, families, and staff.
