At the conclusion of this presentation attendees will be able to:

  1. Describe the major conclusions of the 2012 Surgeon General’s Report.
  2. Identify new science released in the report regarding smoking and tobacco use by youth and young adults.
  3. Recognize how state and local tobacco control programs can utilize the report to further program goals regarding smoking and tobacco use by youth and young adults.

Key Points:

In March 2012, the 31st report by the Surgeon General was released focusing on tobacco use among youth and young adults. This presentation will include a discussion of the major findings of the report and how these findings support social and environmental changes. In addition to discussing the major components of the report, and its impact, this presentation will highlight the subsequent media coverage, and strategies that were utilized to maximize earned media and awareness of the report and its findings.

Panel members will each deliver a presentation and answer questions from participants.
