Cross Cutting Program Area(s): Evaluation and Surveillance

Audience: State Tobacco Control Managers, State Quitline Coordinators, Tobacco Quitline Service Providers

Key Points: This session will present the progress to date on CDC’s National Quitline Data Warehouse (NQDW).  Quitlines have been shown to be effective in helping smokers quit. Although quitlines could serve up to 8% of tobacco users, a little over 1% of adult tobacco users use quitlines. The NQDW is an initiative by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to create the first national collection of data from state and territorial tobacco cessation quitlines.

Educational Experience: The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) received approximately $650 million for chronic disease prevention efforts which funded the NQDW and other projects. The primary goal of the NQDW is to serve as a continuing national resource for data on utilization, success, and services of quitlines to support evaluation for accountability and program improvement at both federal and state levels.  This will be the first time that data from all state quitlines will be available for analyses and evaluation in one place.  The panelists will describe findings from the NQDW related to the services and utilization of quitlines across 50 states, the District of Columbia, Guam, and Puerto Rico.

Benefits: Panelists will also discuss the details of project management such as the development of protocols and procedures for data submission, the structure and provision of technical assistance to states/territories, and ways data will be presented and published ( e.g., State Highlights, MMWRs, and STATE System).
