Key Points: This session will report on the impact of the FCTC on the global tobacco epidemic seven years after it came into force. The presenter will examine successes and failures regarding ratification, the, implementation of laws and regulations, and compliance and enforcement, as well as the epidemiological impact. Quantitative and qualitative data will be gleaned from the CDC, WHO’s Tobacco-Free Initiative, the FCTC Secretariat, and the shadow reporting program of the Framework Convention Alliance.

Educational Experience: Audience will understand how the FCTC has moved global tobacco control into a new paradigm, and where it has failed to live up to its promise so far.
