Wednesday, August 15, 2012
Exhibit Hall (Kansas City Convention Center)
Mr. Laurent Huber, M.S. , Action on Smoking and Health, Washington, DC

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this presentation attendees will be able to:

  1. Understand how tobacco control and the FCTC fits into the overall global development agenda and the next steps in the NCD summit process.

Audience: makers, advocates, media, researchers

Key Points: This session will focus on the outcomes of the Summit, as well as the possible ramifications for global tobacco control in the future. One of the major barriers to full implementation of the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control has been limited resources. The global focus on NCDs – and tobacco’s role as the leading risk factor – holds the promise of stronger action.

Educational Experience: Audience will learn about the political process of the NCD summit, the ways in which civil society contributed, and the outlook moving forward.

Benefits: Greater awareness of how tobacco control fits into the larger global health and development picture.
